The Glass Hours Live at McCarren Parkhouse

My friends down in the deep south refer to the kind of music that The Glass Hours make as “porch music”. It’s filled with heartfelt lyrics, beautiful harmonies and terrific musicianship and its tailor made for singing and strumming in a rocking chair on a warm sultry summer evening. The chemistry between Brad Armstrong and Megan Barbera is a thing to behold. And i was lucky enough to witness this interplay on Thursday night at McCarren Parkhouse. The duo released an eponymous album early last year, which i regrettably did not pay enough attention to because it’s really good. At the parkhouse on Thursday night, the two played a healthy dose of tunes from that Cornelius Chapel Records release, two of which really stood out, “Scarlett Tongues” and “Sing My Songs” along with a number of un-released tunes.
Unfortunately, Megan and Brad don’t stray all that often from their upstate NY home-base. Fortunately for me, when they do, because of their Brooklyn based relationships it’s often in these parts. Needless to say, if The Glass Hours is ever in your parts, drop everything and check ’em out. And in the mean time go listen to their album.
