Nothing’s Wasted on the Soul – Joey Kneiser

I’m still making my way through my first listen to Joey Kneiser’s surprise new album, Nothing’s Wasted on the Soul, his first new album in 10 years (How the hell is The Wilderness ten years old already?), but oh my lord, this thing sounds so good. It makes you feel like you’re chowing down on a warm slice of apple pie topped off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting down the sides.

For those that don’t know, and that is probably 99.9999% of the world, Joey Kneiser is probably the best songwriter that pretty much no one knows about. Now for those who DO know, you hear what I’m saying. Joey’s work in Glossary along with Kelly Smith (who sings on this one’s “A Highway Bent Towards Divine”, Todd Beene, Eric “EZ E” Giles, and Bingham Barnes was (and still is) legendary. His subsequent work as a solo artist and as a duo with Kelly, has been equally majestic and from what I’m hearing thus far on Nothing’s Wasted on the Soul, the man’s still got it going.

So head on over to bandcamp and drop a couple of bucks Joey’s way and download this one. Then once you’ve done that, head on out to the porch or the patio, rest yourself in your favorite rocking chair and queue this sucker up. It won’t take long for you to be transported back to better times, times when things were so much simpler and down right happy. It’s hard to avoid the pettiness, ugliness and division these days, Nothing’s Wasted on the Soul is the perfect antidote to blocking all that shit out for half an hour…and if you’re wise, you’ll just keep playing it on repeat so you don’t have to leave this happy place that Joey has created for all of us to visit.
