In Tongues – Bob Lefevre & The Almost Gone (BLATAG Records)

Truth be told this was a late addition to my list of 25. I only learned of this July release last week and quite honestly have been listening to it almost non stop since. The more I listen, the more I love this album and as a result I just this morning decided I had to bump The Silver Synthetic’s wonderful Rosalie album from the list. (Author’s Note: I still highly suggest checking Rosalie out, it is a great listen and well worth the time). But back to In Tongues. As I’ve previously written, I’m a sucker for cosmic country and Lefevre and his band fit the bill to a T. Right from the opening (and title track), “In Tongues”, these boys nail that honkey tonk on a Saturday night feel like they were playing behind that chicken wired protective fencing in the movie “Road House” with Patrick Swazey busting up bar room brawls as the band plays on. The Already Gone were originally described to me as sounding a good amount like Slobberbone but to my ears, In Tongues could almost be a Drive-By Truckers album if the post Southeastern Jason Isbell was once again writing songs for the band.
