“Future Spring” – Gladie (Get Better Records)

Everyone’s favorite Philadelphia indie punk band Gladie dropped their second single, “Future Spring” from their forthcoming album, Jeff Rosenstock produced, No Need To Be Lonely which will be out in March on Get Better Records,

“Future Spring”, in Augusta “Gus” Koch’s words is a song about isolation and loneliness and it sure hits hard with it’s feedback fueled guitar and abundantly loud mix. It comes across like Koch is truly pissed off and angered over the sad and tragic state of our current society which sh blames largely for the aforementioned isolation which so many are feeling these days. Oddly enough, when this song was debuted live a month or so ago at The Sinclair in Cambridge, MA it didn’t display any of this anger whatsoever. On this particular evening the song was played much slower and softer with a feeling of sadness and just a touch of meloncholy.

Personally, as much as I enjoy the slow burn of this live version, the studio recording with its energy and fire hits me hard. It makes me want to get up and get out and do something. It certainly elicits motivational energy to be productive, to break out of one’s comfortable shell and take some kind of risk. Between “Future Spring” and the previously released “Car Alarm” it certainly looks like No Need To Be Lonely is going to be a banger and hopefully the album which pushes Gladie to that next level of fan recognition and appreciation.

Gladie will be hitting the road in support of the new LP both on the west coast (with Saintseneca) as well as the east coast (with Marie Paternoster’s other new band Noun).
