NO – Langkamer (Breakfast Records)

I first came to know the Bristol, UK band Langkamer from a couple of shows which I caught of theirs in 2024 when they were visiting NYC as part of the wonderful New Colossus Festival. Much to my cahgrin, they haven’t made thier way back to the States since then, but then again with the state of the current U.S., who can blame them.

That being said, the boys from Bristol just released their fourth full length LP, NO on Breakfast Records. And while it sticks to the tried and true combination of 90’s style indie slacker rock mixed with a tad of Americana which originally drew me to the band, I have to say that it rocks just a little harder than their previous offerings. But with a burner like “Easterly” with its hooky chorus and its loud guitar crescendo, one can immediately recognize a subtle departure from Lankhamer. Then two songs later we get the single which was released back in October, “Crows” and for the 3 minute length of this track, one can’t help but recognize the sound and style of the New York City band The Men circa their Tomorrow’s Hits album.

The bottom line is NO is a pretty sweet and varied collection of short tunes which are filled with bouncy rythms and captivating hooks. For fans of that 90’s sound made popular by band like Pavement & Silver Jews but with a modern twist and modernized vigor, Langkamer’s NO is something you ought to check out.
