The indie folk foursome, known as Florist is currently in the midst of a sold out 4 night stand at Cassette over in Ridgwood. Not surprising the 4 night run in this small basement venue sold out almost immediately considering Emily A. Sprague, lead singer, primary songwriter, and rhythm guitarist along with her 3 bandmates have been playing significantly larger rooms (most recently MHOW) of late. Florist plays quiet, introspective soft spoken folk music which lends itself to all four band members sitting during their set (they did). It also lends itself to the encouragement for the crowd to sit and listen (they did and we did). All of which made for quite an enjoyable night of heartfelt emotional song craft. Now truth be told, while I came into the evening being not all that familiar with Florist’s repertoire, the set felt like that well worn crocheted afghan on the back of everyone’s grandmother’s couch…soft, warm and of course familiar. @AlenaSpanger with her beautifully angelic vocals provided a near perfect opening set of singer songwriter soft spoken music.
