Send A Prayer My Way- Julien Baker & TORRES (Matador Records)

I first heard this album live when Julien Baker & TORRES played a surprise pop up show at New York City’s tiny Mercury Lounge.  This was back in December of last year, four months before Send A Prayer My Way would be released.  They were still working through much of the material that night but their performance was magical to say the least and right away Send A Prayer jumped to the top of my most anticipated albums for 2025.  When the LP finally dropped in April, the recorded output was even better than the live show which introduced me to the material.  The combination of Baker’s shy heartfelt presentation combined with TORRES’s countrified swagger is a perfect yin/yang combination.  The single from the album, “Sugar In The Tank” ranks right up there with what I feel is one of the best songs of the year.  I’m not sure what the future for this little side project is.  They were supposed to tour the album over the summer but unfortunately had to cancel those dates due to health issues.  I for one, hope this isn’t the last we hear from this marvelous duo.
