Dreaming In Stereo- The Jellybricks (Wicked Cool Records)

How does a band survive for almost 30 years in relative obscurity and still manage to sound alive, vibrant and F.U.N. after all of those years? Well The Jellybricks have found a way and with their 8th full length LP since their creation back in 1996, Dreaming In Stereo is the answer. The album opens up with the bouncy, high energy pop punk instant classic “Age Of Stupid”, a song which would fit pretty much perfectly on Green Day’s American Idiot collection. Following “Age Of Stupid” is the title track, “Dreaming In Stereo” which is a quintisential power pop tune with jangly guitars, lush harmonies and a hook that would be the bane of Peter Pan. For my ears, however, my favorite tune on the album and one of my favorite songs of the year is “Monday’s Never”. Borrowing the recitation of the days of the week alla The Cure’s “Friday, I’m In Love”, this song is pure unadulterated power pop magic. Aided by Doug Gillard’s (Guided By Voices and Nada Surf) masterful guitar solo mid way through, if this song doesn’t get you bouncing up and down, its time to check your pulse to make sure you’ve still got one. Oddly enough, this isn’t available on bandcamp for some reason but, by all means hit Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records site to grab a copy of this one.
