I vaguely recall being quite impressed with Jade Jackson back in February 2020 when she opened for Lucero at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City. Unfortunately, the world was about to shut down and subsequently Jackson fell off of my radar. Fortunately, this past Monday, I got to rectify that when Jade and her relatively new(ish) band were brought to Lucindas by Sirius XM Outlaw for a taping to be aired at a later date.

After having released two critically acclaimed solo albums and one collaboration (with Aubrey Sellers), Jackson currently finds herself without a record contract despite having more than enough new material to fill a new LP. Those of us in attendance at Lucinda’s were treated to a healthy dose of this new material and I have to tell you, these songs are QUITE good. Almost every one displays the emotional growth on a personal level which Jade has experienced since 2019’s Wilderness album. Having triumphed over a serious pain killer addiction (as a result of a seriously traumatic hiking accident) as well as her meeting and ultimately marrying the love of her life, the new songs are much more uplifting and deal with positive tones compared to the traumatized motifs of her earlier songs.

Hopefully things work out for Jackson and the band and they are able to get these wonderful new songs out to the world sooner rather than later.
